すぐれた浮世絵師は「一色抜く」ことをしたそう。この色を最後に加えれば作品が完璧になるというときに、あえてその一色を加えない。すると、作品がかえって引き立つ。
間や空間、静けさや淡いものに美しさや洗練を感じる日本人の美意識のなせる業で、私たちはもともと押すよりも引く、加えるよりも抜くことを美しいと感じる美学をもっている。
